About
Anatole Diethardt is a professional portrait and editorial photographer.
An cosmopolitan European, he was born in Paris, moved to Vienna on his own at age 15, only to discover photography through someone else’s lens - assisting was just fine then, and cameras were scary things anyway. Following a three-year return to Paris for his B.A.s (still not in photography), he moved to Oxford and used the dreaming spires and their inhabitants as his relentlessly beautiful subjects to master his craft.
After copious visits to Central St Martins, many a workshop, the demand for his work kept increasing, and he ended up working between Oxford and London for several years, photographing private clients, promotional materials for the theatre, and much more. He surprised himself moving back to Paris recently, where he is establishing his continuously growing studio.
When not writing about himself in the third person, Anatole takes bold and dark photographs, crafting contemporary images with a classical elegance. Inspired by the paintings of the Old Masters of the Renaissance, as well as Baroque and Turn of the Century art, he is driven to entice the viewers with original stories and narratives. He loves showing a heightened yet slightly subdued version of reality, and his photographs transport subjects into moody but elegant settings, with a distinctive use of colour and light.
Working with publications as well as private and corporate clients, he is always seeking new collaborations with magazines, businesses and talented individuals to somehow make the impossible happen.
